Top Five: MUST SEE at Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival
This year’s annual Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival promises to attract overlanding enthusiasts from far and wide with new tech, field instruction, vehicle demos, special guests, and the shiniest of off-roading accoutrements. Yes, there is a schedule. Yes, it’s tight. What shouldn’t you miss? Well, all of that helpful information is listed just below. All that’s required of you is to stay awake, keep your eyes open, and continue reading. Lucky you.

If you’re new to the overlanding community, or self-isolate in some sort of decommissioned underground military silo, you may not have heard of The Russos - or, Joe & Kait, as their parents preferred to call them. They’re a pretty big deal in the scene. From reviewing new travel rigs and gear, to musing over the various difficulties associated with relationship maintenance in tight, unforgiving living quarters, We’re The Russos [YouTube Channel] is a breadth of firsthand experience information and entertainment. You’ve got to meet these two.
Unbeknownst to some newcomers, the festival coincides with the Perseids meteor shower. What better way to welcome it back to our small corner of the universe than with a discussion of our indefinable celestial realm (and perhaps… beyond…?) led by astronomer Ted Williams, under the vast unobstructed canopy of the night sky? Yeah, man. Far out.

With only 1000+ known production models owned by US citizens, it’s not easy to catch a glimpse of the Ineos Grenadier. Oh wait. It is now. Not only will there be a Grenadier on site for your viewing pleasure, you may even be allowed to sit inside. Feel the upholstery. Touch the instruments. Gaze longingly into her peripheral mirrors. Only after you’ve washed your hands - be respectful. Despite the German drivetrain, she’s French at heart. Have some respect.
Short of spending your remaining scratch off ticket winnings on a factory fresh model, this is your next best opportunity to see this French Bigfoot in the wild before any of your Land Rover friends get the chance.

You don’t want to miss the Dirtbox display. Their canopy campers make your Grandad’s truck bed cap look like a drawing board mistake. You’ll have all the time you need to check out their mounted campers, and the modern luxuries they feature. Climb on in and check them out. Dirtbox might be camping solution for you.
2.
The Orvis Edition Camper from Four Wheel Campers (FWC). This camper must be seen. Whether you’re the type of angler that’s feared by all the brown trout in the hatchery, or the type that stops at the market for fish on the way home from the river, you can appreciate the attention to detail FWC put into the Orvis Edition. They spared no expense trying to recreate the luxuries of home within a 6ft to 8ft truck bed living space. No easy task there.

The Lexus GX460 build from Arctic Trucks will also be in attendance. After designing vehicles for the commercial exploration of particularly remote regions and harsh climates, Arctic Trucks has brought their tech to the US consumer market. Have you seen a 37” tire set on a luxury utility vehicle? You won’t have to take my word for it after the festival. It is - frightening-cool.
